Welcome to I Got Dibs!
It started at a holiday dinner. Someone at the table jokingly "stole" the centerpiece — just picked it up and took it home. The next day, a neighbor came by and stole it back. By the end of the week, the whole block was in on it.
That stupid, hilarious game of neighborhood keep-away stuck with us. Then we saw the viral Christmas inflatable trend — thousands of neighborhoods across the country doing the exact same thing with yard decorations — and we thought: what if there was an app for this?
Not a complicated app. Not something with a tutorial and seventeen screens. Just a simple, elegant way to track who stole what, when, and keep score automatically. So we built it.
How It Works
I Got Dibs! is a seasonal neighborhood game. Here's the gist:
- You buy a seasonal kit that comes with a mascot — a physical figure with an NFC tag built in.
- One person in the neighborhood starts a season and becomes the commissioner.
- Households join the season and take turns "stealing" the mascot from each other's yards.
- When you steal the mascot, you tap your phone on the NFC tag. That's it. The steal is recorded instantly.
- A leaderboard tracks everything — most steals, longest hold time, who had it last. No disputes. No honor system.
Seasons Keep It Fresh
Every season has a different themed mascot. The Christmas Cow was our first. Next up is Cupid's Heart for Valentine's Day. After that, the Lucky Leprechaun for St. Patrick's Day, then the Easter Bunny. Each season is its own standalone game with a fresh leaderboard and new bragging rights up for grabs.
Who We Are
I Got Dibs! is made by Block Heist LLC. We're a small team that believes the best kind of technology brings people together in the real world. We're not trying to keep you glued to a screen — we're trying to get you to walk over to your neighbor's house and steal something off their porch.
We're just getting started, and we're building this thing out in the open. If you have ideas, feedback, or just want to tell us about your neighborhood's game, we'd love to hear from you.
Welcome to I Got Dibs!. Let's play.
